Bangladesh-India economic ties: Addressing the next generation of challenges

Over the past decade particularly, the Bangladesh-India bilateral economic relationship has entered a new terrain with the strengthening of traditional ties and foundations being laid to deepen and broaden the partnership in going forward. The recent state visit of the Indian prime minster to Bangladesh—to join the celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, the Father of the Nation—marked new initiatives to further strengthen the bilateral ties. The communique issued at the end of the visit states that "the ties reflect an all-encompassing bilateral partnership based on equality, trust and understanding that transcends even a strategic partnership".
