The easing of lockdown restrictions will not help matters at all
Eid-ul-Azha is set to be observed in less than a week, at a time when Bangladesh is experiencing its worst period with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic, regularly seeing over 200 daily deaths, and daily infections threatening to reach 15,000.
This is an extremely critical moment for Bangladesh and its people, and the next few weeks could determine whether we slip into an unmitigated catastrophe like the one witnessed in India, or we are able to stave off such a fate.
As such, just as last year, but with even more seriousness and urgency as a result of the surging deaths and infections, we must be far more careful with our Eid celebrations than we are normally accustomed to.
