6 mobile operators fined Tk 65mln

The telecom regulator on Tuesday fined six mobile phone operators around Tk 65 million for selling SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards defying rules and regulations.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) sent them notices signed by the Director of its Systems and Services Division Lt Col Mohammad Rakibur Rahman.

Most of the SIM cards have been used in illegal call termination or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), the regulator said.

The operators are Grameenphone, Airtel, Banglalink, Teletalk (a state owned company), Citycel (only CDMA based operator) and Robi.

They have been directed to pay the fines to the regulator within 30 days from the date of issuance of the notice
