Plainclothesmen picked up two students of Rajshahi University early Monday from Shahid Habibur Rahman hall of the university.
The students were identified as Abdul Gaffar and Mahbubul Alam, third year students of crop science and technology department of the university.
The university proctor M Mozibul Huq Azad Khan said that Rajshahi Metropolitan Police officials informed him that they arrested two students of the university early Monday. But they did inform nothing about their detention, he added.
Akram Ullah, provost of Shahid Habibur Rahman hall, said he was informed about the arrest of Gaffar and Mahbub by the university vice-chancellor’s office on Monday.
However, top officials from both Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and its Detective Branch unit denied arresting any student.
RMP commissioner Md Shamsuddin told New Age that he knew nothing about the arrest of two students.
Rezaus Sadik, inspector of Rajshahi Metropolitan Detective Branch, and Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station also echoed the RMP commissioner.
Wishing anonymity, some students of Shahid Habibur Rahman hall told New Age that a team of plainclothesmen entered at the hall after 2:00am on Monday and picked up Gaffar from room 236 and Mahbub from room 442.
Earlier on May 15, plainclothesmen detained Md Rahmutullah, a third year student of crop science and technology department and leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Though police denied the arrest of Rahmutullah first, they informed journalists on May 17 that they detained Rahmutullah for his alleged involvement with RU professor Rezaul Karim Siddiquee killing.
