Quader: Qawmi degree recognition doesn’t mean compromise with Hefazat

The recognition of Qawmi madrasa’s “dawah-e-hadith” as a post-graduate degree does not mean that the government made a compromise with Hefazat-e-Islam, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said. “It is a political and social reality. The decision was taken in line with people’s sentiments,” Quader said at a press briefing at Awami League

The recognition of Qawmi madrasa’s “dawah-e-hadith” as a post-graduate degree does not mean that the government made a compromise with Hefazat-e-Islam, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.

“It is a political and social reality. The decision was taken in line with people’s sentiments,” Quader said at a press briefing at Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday decided to acknowledge Qawmi madrasa’s “dawah-e-hadith” as a post-graduate degree. The decision was taken in a meeting with Bangladesh Qawmi Madrasa Education Board and Hefazat-e-Islam leaders at Ganabhaban

The Awami League general secretary dubbed Khaleda Zia’s press briefing on the prime minister’s India tour as agenda-driven and provocative, reports Bangla Tribune.

“Not only India, the government is being signing Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with other countries too,” he said.

Addressing those who violated party discipline, Quader said: “Action will be taken against the party men who violated discipline in Comilla (during city corporation election) and other places of the country.”

He also said Awami League would not bring out Mongol Shobhajatra this year in consideration of the trouble it creates for ordinary people.

The Dhaka metropolitan unit of the party used to bring out a colourful procession from Bahadur Shah Park and end at Bangabandhu Avenue, on every Pohela Boishakh.
