Prices of rice increase

The prices of rice increased in the city’s retail markets over the week ending Friday.

Retailers blamed wholesalers for the rise in the prices of the staple food.

The prices of both the coarse and fine varieties of rice increased by Tk 1-2 a kilogram over the week.

The coarse variety of rice increased by Tk 2 a kg and the variety was selling at Tk 40-42 a kg while BR-28 rice was retailing at Tk 45-48 a kg on Friday.

Miniket rice’s coarse variety was retailing at Tk 48-53 a kg, while its fine variety was selling at Tk 52-55 a kg in the city markets on the day.
The price of Najirshail remained unchanged and the fine variety of the item was selling at Tk 54-56 a kg.

Zakir Hossain, a retailer at Karwan Bazar, told New Age on Friday that the prices of rice increased by Tk 50-100 a bag (50 kg) on the wholesale market over the week.

Among other commodities, the prices of vegetables remained unchanged over the week.

Aubergine was selling at Tk 30-60 a kg, bitter gourds at Tk 60-70 a kg, cucumber at Tk 40-50 a kg, bottle gourd at Tk 40 a piece, okra at Tk 60-80 a kg and papaya at Tk 30 a kg.

Cabbage was selling at Tk 30 a piece, carrot at Tk 30 a kg, beans at Tk 40-50 a kg and tomatoes at Tk 30-50 a kg.

Green chilli was selling at Tk 50-60 a kg on Friday. Potato was selling at Tk 15-18 a kg.

The prices of broiler remained unchanged over the week and the item was selling at Tk 160-165 a kg, while the locally-bred hens were selling at Tk 320-450 a kg on Friday.
The prices of onion remained unchanged. The item was retailing at Tk 20-25 a kg, while its imported variety at Tk 20 a kg on Friday.

The imported garlic was selling at Tk 190-200 a kg while the local variety was retailing at Tk 100-120 a kg in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday. The prices of the item remained unchanged over the week.

The price of ginger remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 80-120 a kg.

The prices of beef and mutton remained high. Beef was selling at Tk 480-510 a kg and mutton at TK 650-700 a kg on Friday.

The price of eggs remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 30-32 a hali (four pieces) on Friday.

Fish prices remained unchanged. Rohita was selling at Tk 200-250 a kg, Katla at Tk 220-300 a kg, Pangas at Tk 120-260 a kg and Tilapia at Tk 120-160 a kg, depending on their size and quality.

A one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 105-107 while a five-litre container at Tk 505-525 in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday.

Unpacked soya bean oil was selling at Tk 98 a kg while palm oil was selling at Tk 85 a kg.

The price of red lentil remained unchanged over the week. The local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 130-140 a kg while the fine 
variety of imported red lentil was selling at Tk 130-140 a kg.

The coarse variety of imported red lentil was retailing at Tk 90-110 a kg over the week.

Unpacked refined sugar was selling at Tk 70 a kg while packed one was retailing at Tk 72 a kg.
