BNP today alleged that “terrorists” of ruling Awami League are giving life threats to its candidates and supporters ahead of tomorrow’s elections in 18 upazilas.
“Dreadful environment is prevailing in the election areas due to Awami League terrorists’ attacks and threats to BNP nominated candidates and their supporters,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said at a briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
He also alleged that the ruling party cadres are creating obstacles in the campaign of the BNP nominated candidates.
While mentioning some examples of attacks on BNP men, Rizvi said AL goons carried out an attack on a pre-scheduled meeting of BNP chairman candidate in Rangabali Upazila in Patuakhali.
Saying that the village home of the new chief election commissioner is around 25 kilometers away from Rangabali, Rizvi said, “It is a big question of how the CEC or his commission will control election in the whole country when he failed to stop election violence in his area?”
Rizvi also said local administration or the law enforcement agencies are not taking any preventive measures despite lodging complain against them.
In reply to a query, Rizvi said BNP is taking part in the local body election as it is an election oriented party and is not against democracy. “Therefore BNP is taking part in the local body elections in a bid to expand multi-party democracy in the country.”
