The cases were filed on Saturday night
Two cases have been filed against over 60 leaders and activists of Chhatra League’s Begum Rokeya University unit for demanding extortion.
University unit President Mehedi Hasan Shishir and General Secretary Mostafa Mahmud Hasan are among the accused.
The cases were filed on Saturday night, Kotwali police OC Abul Aziz confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune on Sunday morning.
One of the cases was filed by Mazedul Islam, owner of a Fast food restaurant. His shop was allegedly vandalised by Chhatra League men on Saturday afternoon.
He filed the case against 25-30 Chhatra League activists mentioning Shishir as the prime accused.
The vandalism triggered a clash in the afternoon between Chhatra League activists and local traders, leaving 25 injured.
The other case was filed by Mizanur Rahman, supervisor of a construction company.
He lodged the case against 30-35 Chhatra League members including General Secretary Mostafa alleging that they demanded Tk50 lakh as extortion for the construction of Dr Wazed Research Institute on February 28.
He also alleged that the Chhatra League men had assaulted eight workers at the site.
“We conducted a night-long drive to arrest Shishir and Mamun, but failed,” the OC added.
