Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today termed the ongoing transport strike as illogical saying that the transport workers have no right to create public suffering centering a court verdict.
“People are not linked with the court verdict. Why they [people] will face suffering? You [strikers] should withdraw the illogical strike immediately,” Quader said while addressing a programme in Dhaka this afternoon.
Dhaka South city unit of Chhatra League, student front of Awami League, organised the programme at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) marking the International Mother Language Day.
He also came down heavily on the people who speak on mobile phone while crossing roads, and blamed that drivers are desperate.
“Who will curb the road accidents if passersby cross the road desperately?” The Roads Transport and Bridges minister raised the question.
Since this morning, transport workers took their protests to a bigger scale protesting conviction of two fellow drivers.
The death conviction of a trucker in Dhaka yesterday fueled the transport workers who were already on strike in Khulna division and helped it spread countrywide.
