Awami League publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud on Thursday claimed that the recent verdict of a Canadian court proved that Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a ‘terrorist’ party.
The court rejected application of a BNP leader for political asylum there, he said. At a press conference at party president Sheikh Hasina’s office at Dhanmondi in the city, Hasan Mahmud, said that a federal court of Canada in its verdict said that BNP is a ‘terrorist’ political party and it could continue its extremist activities in future.
A leader of Bangladesh Swechchhasebak Dal, youth wing of BNP, Jewel Hossain, applied for political asylum in Canada, but the federal court rejected the plea, Hasan Mahmud said. ‘We claimed earlier that BNP and Jamaat are terrorist organisations who were responsible for killings of people with arson attack and petrol bomb in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and now it is proved by the verdict of the Canadian court, the AL leader said.
He called on the government to take legal actions against them who were responsible for the killings of the innocent people by forming a special tribunal. The central leaders of the party Asim Kumar Ukil, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Sujit Roy Nandi, Marufa Akter Poppy and others attended the press conference.
