Police arrested Ahsan Habib Rubel, president of the upazila unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), his mother and two of his supporters from the scene, our Jhalakathi correspondent reports quoting police.

The victims were preparing to file cases in the afternoon bringing allegations of extortion, land grabbing, women repression and looting charges against them, police said.

Earlier, the BCL leader’s father Tofazzal Hossain was sued in several cases in connection with the land grabbing, said Sheikh Monirul Gias, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajapur Police Station.

Among the seven injured people, condition of three is critical. The injured people were rushed to Rajapur Health Complex, the OC said.

They were hacked with sharp weapons and beaten up indiscriminately in the attack, he added.

The attackers drove them out of the house and occupied it, she added.

Rubel had been asking the family to pay Tk 10 lakh if they want to live in the house, alleged Shahera whose husband is a businessman and stays in Dhaka.
