Tamim shines in UAE gloom

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal scored an unbeaten half-century in his first match of the Pakistan Super League second edition, guiding his team Peshawar Zalmi to 117-3 in 16 overs in a rain-interrupted match in Sharjah on Friday.

Tamim hit 62 off 46 balls with four fours and as many sixes before rain halted the game for the fourth time, forcing the organisers to declare his side’s match against Quetta Gladiators abandoned.

Tamim was joined by all-rounder Sakib al Hasan in the Peshwar side though he did not require to bat or bowl.

Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah played the game for Quetta and made his mark by picking up the wicket of Tamim’s opening partner Mohammad Hafeez.

Mahmudullah, who was unbeaten on 29 in his PSL debut on Wednesday, bowled three overs to concede just 18 runs. Only two boundaries were scored off his bowling but none by Tamim.
