Awami League general secretary, Obaidul Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, on Saturday said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a very tough opponent of Awami League in the battle of national election.
‘They (BNP) have huge number of supporters and voters also. That does not mean that they would be able to stop the election process in an undemocratic manner, committing violence and setting fire like previous election.’ he said in a party meeting in Rajshahi city this morning.
Government will take stern action if anybody tries to break the law of the country, Quader warned.
‘If Khaleda Zia is proved guilty in the court then she would be unfit for contesting in the election as general people will accept the court’s verdict. And if BNP disobey the verdict people will
resist the party.’ Obaidul said.
Reacting to the BNP leaders’ warning of thwarting election, Obaidul said that the BNP has no capacity to thwart next general election.
State minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam and state minister for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak, Awami League adviser former Rajshahi University vice-chancellor professor Abdul Khalek, central Awami League leader and former VP of RUCSU Nurul Islam Thandu, Rajshahi city Awami League president former city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, presidents and secretaries of Awami League eight district units of Rajshahi division also spoke at the programme.
