The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday brushed aside the speculation over participating in the next parliamentary elections under the poll-time government led by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy brushed aside the rumour when he was asked over speculation on the issue of election-time government the BNP is preparing a framework keeping the prime minister as the head of the government.
The senior BNP leader said, ‘If we are to go to polls under Sheikh Hasina, then we could have contested the January-5 elections of 2014 under her government.’ ‘Why we’ll contest polls (under her leadership) after five years?’
The BNP standing committee member came up with the comments while talking to journalists after placing a wreath at the grave of the party founder late president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
Gayeshwar placed the wreath along with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal, an associate body of BNP, marking its 37th founding anniversary.
