A team of Detective Branch of police (DB) arrested 11 frauds, who had been faking their identity as DB policemen, from capital’s Sabujbagh area in a special drive on Saturday night.
They are Yousuf Kazi, Alauddin Ali, Akash Rahman Mintu, Afsar Ali, Faruk Hossain, Malek Mia, Masud Parvez, Shahin Kazi, Liton Shak, Masum Gazi and Aslam Sheikh.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman confirmed it to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday morning.
At a press briefing held in DMP media centre on Sunday, Joint commissioner of DB Abdul Baten said they had conducted the drive on the basis of previous information.
We have been trying to arrest other seven culprits who could manage to flee the scene, Baten added.
He said: “Law enforcers also recovered three vehicles, three pistols, two pipe guns, five round bullet, five jackets, one walkie-talkie, five hand cuffs and knives during the drive.”
“All of them were dacoits in the disguise of DB police. But we have been investigating on how they had accessed the items which were supposed to be sold only to the law enforcement personnel.”
Asked whether any law enforcing official involved in the dodging, he replied the possibility cannot be completely overlooked.
Law enforcing agencies have been looking into the matter considering all these facts, he added.
