Cricketer Sunny denied bail, sent to jail

After rejecting both the remand and bail prayers, a Dhaka court today sent Bangladesh spinner Arafat Sunny to jail in connection with the case filed for torturing a 23-year-old woman, who claimed to be Sunny’s wife.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order after Sunny was produced before the court in the case filed on February 2 by Nasrin Sultana under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Sub Inspector of Mohammadpur Police Station Masudur Rahman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court.

In her complaint, Nasrin alleged that Sunny as per direction of his mother demanded money six months after Nasrin and Sunny got married on December 4, 2014. On Nasrin's refusal, Sunny and his mother Nargis Akhter verbally abused her and left her, she alleged.

Earlier, Nasrin filed two cases against Sunny -- one over threatening her online and another over dowry. Sunny was arrested on January 22.
