Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Thursday criticised the BNP claiming that the party is trying to mislead people by spreading wrong information about the recently formed Election Commission.
“This Election Commission is devoted. The present government formed both the Election Commissions transparently during its tenure,” Hanif told reporters before presiding over a school’s annual sports day in Kushtia.
“The present Election Commission was also formed according to people’s demand. There is no scope of questioning this commission. If someone questions, it would be absolutely pointless,” he added.
Hanif said the 10-member search committee formed by the president nominated 10 candidates for the EC and five were selected from them. “It was not formed for any political intention but based on people’s choice.”
He urged the BNP to have faith in the current Election Commission.
On Monday, President Abdul Hamid appointed former bureaucrat KM Nurul Huda as the next chief election commissioner of Bangladesh and four commissioners to form the new EC.
