Police officers began conducting the drive in 18 residential hotels in Mohammadpur, Adabor, Shyamoli, and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from around 4pm
A team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police officers raided 18 residential hotels in Mohammadpur, Adabor, Shyamoli, and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas on Tuesday afternoon.
The raid, conducted from 4pm to 6:30pm, led to eight hotels being shut down and their managers taken away for questioning.
The closures were carried out due to the hotel administrators deceiving clients and engaging in illicit activities such as prostitution, selling liquor, among others.
Five of these eight hotels are Haque International Residential Hotel and Tajin Residential Hotel, Akash Moni Residential Hotel, Ichamoti Residential Hotel, and Projapoti Residential Hotel.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mohammadpur Wahidul Islam confirmed the closures.
When contacted during the drive, Mohammadpur police station Officer-in-Charge Jamal Uddin Mir said this was a standard drive.
Our correspondent reported he witnessed police personnel questioning hotel authorities inside their respective hotel buildings.
Haider Residential Hotel, Al-Hasan Residential Hotel, Hotel Surma, and Rupom Residential Hotel in Shyamoli were among the hotels raided.
