The by-elections in Gaibandha-1 constituency that fell vacant following the murder of Awami League lawmaker Manzurul Islam Liton in December last would be held on March 22, Election Commission announced today.

The last date for filing nominations has been set for February 19, while all the submitted nomination papers would be scrutinised on February 22, according to an EC press release.
The last day for nomination paper withdrawal has been fixed on March 1, the release added.
The Rangpur Division Election Officer would act as the Returning Officer for the by-polls of the parliamentary constituency that has 302,853 eligible voters.
Liton, ruling AL lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 constituency, was killed after unknown assailants opened fire on him inside his home at Sundarganj upazila of the district on December 31 last year.
