Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said the government will form banking commission in the final year of its current tenure to look into the irregularities in the banking sector.
“After two years, the newly-elected government will get benefits from the commission’s recommendations,” the minister said while attending the Sonali Bank annual meeting at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka.
He said: “Initially, I opposed the idea of forming a banking commission. But now we feel that it is needed for the betterment of our financial sector.
“However, the banking sector is yet to gain the capacity to form a banking commission.”
Muhith hoped that once formed, the commission would suggest the government the ways to curb corruption and change the loan defaulting culture.
