Three BCL activists hacked in Sylhet

Masked miscreants hacked three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, in Sylhet Monday evening.

The injured BCL activist – Golam Rahman Chowdhury Rajon, Mabrur Rahman and Tanim Ahmad – were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, families said.

Witnesses said that four masked youths attacked Golam Rahman and his two friends at Tilagar Point in the city at about 9:30pm on Monday when they were gossiping. The attackers hacked them with machetes.

Golam Rahman’s elder brother Sajon told New Age that the condition of Golam Rahman was serious as he sustained wounds in different parts of his body.

Mentioning that two fingers of Golam Rahman’s right hand were cut off in the attack, Sajon alleged that the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed student organisation, had launched the attack because of enmity centring political activities.

Shah Paran police station officer-in-charge Shahjalal Munshi said that they had visited the spot immediately after receiving the information.
‘Legal steps would be taken against the attackers, if a written complaint was lodged in this regard,’ he said.
