Awami League nominee Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari has been unofficially elected in the by-polls of Tangail-4 constituency (Kalihati) held on Tuesday.
Sohel Hazari bagged 193,547 votes and his nearest rival Imrul Kayes of National People’s Party (NPP) got 1,696.
District election officer Md Tajul Islam made the announcement of the results.
On September 1, 2015, the parliamentary seat fell vacant as sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique quit his parliament membership.
The former Posts and Telecommunications Minister was dropped from the cabinet and stripped off his membership of the ruling Awami League in October, 2014 amid a wave of criticisms following his derogatory remarks on hajj and Tabligh Jamaat in the USA on September 28, 2014.
The Election Commission published a gazette declaring the parliamentary seat vacant on September 3, 2015 and announced by-election schedule on September 15.
