Dhaka University authorities have sacked an assistant professor and a lecturer and demoted one for long-term absence and plagiarism respectively.
The decisions were taken at the meeting of the syndicate body.
Assistant Professor Dr Golam Azam of philosophy department has been sacked for prolonged absence from office, Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, a syndicate member, told The Daily Star.
Hira Lal Pal, a lecturer of Leather Engineering and Technology Institute, has been sacked for the same reason – overstaying a leave. He was asked to return in eight weeks, but he did not respond.
Associate Professor Md Abu Sayem of World Religion and Culture department has been demoted to the position of assistant professor after found him guilty of plagiarism in research, said Nasrin Ahmad, Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (education).
