Telugu star Prabhas, who is currently working on the sequel to his 2015 hit Baahubali, may soon be donning the role of mythological Ram. Sources close to the 36-year-old actor claim that “several organisers” have approached Prabhas to shoot the effigy of Ravana on Vijayadashmi.
Vijayadashmi, or Dusshehra, is on October 11 this time, and there is a growing demand for Prabhas to symbolically kill the Lankan demon of the epic Ramayana.
Vijayadashmi is an occasion that celebrates the end of ‘asuras’. The ritual of someone shooting a flaming arrow to the effigy of Ravana denotes the victory of good over the evil.
Prabhas’ spokesperson said in a statement, “The favourite character in Ram Leela is obviously Ram. We have grown up reading it. Prabhas has been inundated with calls for Ram’s role after Bahubali. Since last year he has been getting invites to all possible Dusshera pandals. His character (in Baahubali) has deeply resonated with the audiences. His team is working out the dates for accepting the offers.
“However he is shooting everyday for 16 hours for Bahubali; so nothing is confirmed yet. The makers are shooting for the climax sequence and there is a marathon schedule that’s been made in place,” he added.
People have connected well with the actor’s performance in Bahubali. He even had action sequences involving the bow and arrow and that is what might have attracted the offers.
Prabhas, who is a nephew of veteran actor Krishnam Raju, has a very hectic schedule shooting for Bahubali – The Conclusion, and is currently working for the sequel for 16 hours a day.
