Police today claimed to have arrested the prime accused in the murder case of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.
Arrestee Moinul Islam Shamim alias Sifat alias Samir is a key organiser of the banned Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with Tk 2 lakh bounty on him, police said.
He was held from Cherag Ali Market in Tongi of Gazipur, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, last night, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Jagriti Prokashoni owner Dipan was stabbed dead inside his office in Dhaka’s Aziz Super Market on October 31 last year. The same day, another publisher was knifed brutally in the capital.
According to police, arrestee Shamim was the coordinator of the killing mission. He also said to have trained the assailants who killed Dipon.
Police also claimed to have found his link in the killing of Riaz Morshed Babu, a music department student of Shanto-Mariam Univeristy, in Savar in January this year.
Further details regarding the arrest will be disclosed at a press briefing later in the day, said a text message floated by the DMP to the media.
