Mother confesses to killing Bashabo siblings

Mother confessed to killing her two children, who were found dead at their North Bashabo residence in Dhaka last evening.

She admitted her involvement with the double murder after she was detained in Sabujbagh area around 4:15am today, Abdul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Sabujbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star this morning.

“We will investigate whether anyone else was involved in the killings,” the Rab official said.

Meanwhile, victims’ father Mahbubur Rahman lodged a murder case with the police station in the morning.

The mother, who is said to be mentally unstable, remained traceless since the hacked bodies of her two children were recovered last evening, police said.

The two siblings -- Mashrafe Bin Mahbub Abrar, 7, a madrasa student; and Humaira Bin Mahbub Takia, 6, who was admitted to a local school this year -- were hacked to death in their home last night.

Victims’ father Mahbubur Rahman, a computer operator at Wasa, found the two blood-stained bodies in two rooms after he returned home following evening prayers. A machete was found in one room.
