Probe report against Mir Kashem submitted

The investigators and prosecutors of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 Sunday submitted the progress report on their investigation into charges of wartime crimes against detained Jamaat-e-Islami central leader and chairman of Diganta Media Corporation Mir Kashem Ali.

Prosecutor Sultan mahmood Simon submitted the progress report with the two-member tribunal led by Justice Nizamul Haque at about 10:30am.

While accepting the progress report, the tribunal asked the prosecutors to submit the final probe report against the Jamaat leader within September 27.

Meanwhile, it directed the investigators to place at least the progress report if they fail to place the final report within the due time.

Besides, the tribunal asked not to unveil the secret information of the report to media as the defense is yet to get it.

Earlier in the day, Mir Kashem was produced before the tribunal.

On June 17, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mir Kashem around 4:45pm just an hour after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against the Jamaat leader.

Mir Kashem Ali, central leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and chairman of Diganta Media Corporation, was arrested for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971.

On July 22, ICT-1 issued division status to the detained Jamaat man as he filed a petition with the tribunal seeking division status in jail on July 19.
