Finally resignation accepted
Finally, Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj's resignation from parliament was “accepted” by the Speaker as he in person tendered it yesterday.
A news release issued by the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat said the speaker had accepted the resignation of Tanjim, better known as Sohel Taj, when he met the former and submitted his resignation letter.
Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam was present when Sohel Taj tendered his resignation at the speaker’s office at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 7:30pm.Sohel Taj after submitting his resignation met prime minister Sheikh Hasina at her Ganabhaban residence.
Earlier on April 23, Sohel Taj, who was elected lawmaker for Gazipur-4 constituency, had sent his resignation to the speaker through his personal assistant from abroad but the speaker did not accept the letter claiming that it was not submitted ‘properly’ that annoyed Sohel Taj.Abdul Hamid had said that he would consider the resignation letter only if Sohel Taj re-submitted it ‘properly’.
After submitting the resignation letter, Sohel Taj went to prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Gana Bhaban to meet her, his personal aide said. Sohel Taj, son of Bangladesh’s founding prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed, had resigned as the state minister for home affairs on May 31, 2009 about five months after the AL-led alliance took office, but the prime minister granted him two weeks’ leave instead of accepting his resignation.
