Ilias Ali’s daughter at PM’s door, seeks a birthday gift

She had a plan of her own to celebrate her 10th birth anniversary. She had thought that the safe return of her missing father would be her best birthday gift, but that is not to be.

Sayara Nawal, daughter of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali, turned 10 today (Monday). As her birthday was getting closer, Sayara wrote a letter on June 14 addressing the Prime Minister seeking measurers for the unharmed return of her father before her birthday.

Written in English, the letter reads “Mrs. Sheikh Hasina, 18 June is my birth day. You have to give me a gift that is my father. I want my father before my birthday. Every year he presents me many gifts (sic).”

The minor girl, who has been deprived of the company of his father since Aril-17 midnight, planned that her mother would meet the Prime Minister before her birthday and hand over the letter to her.

Neither her father returned as per her whish nor the letter reached the premier. Who knows where in the world missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali is.

As her mother did not meet the Prime Minister, she turned up before reporters with the letter when they went to Ilias’ Banani residence, ‘Sylhet House’, on Monday noon.

Ilias Ali, BNP organising secretary, went missing along with his driver on April 17 midnight. BNP blamed security agencies for his mysterious disappearance, an allegation denied by the government.

Earlier, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to the Sylhet House with a birthday card and a cake to wish Sayara, a student of Manarat School, on her birthday.

On May 2, Ilias Ali’s wife, Tahsina Rushdir Luna, along with her three children met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban to seek the PM’s intervention to get back her husband alive.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had held out a categorical assurance that her government would leave no stone unturned to trace out missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali.

The Prime Minister had told Luna that the question of humanity is more precious to her than party politics. “Keeping aloft that human value, it’s my duty as the Prime Minister to trace out Ilias,”
