War crimes can’t be linked with Iliyas affair, says Hanif
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Tuesday criticised BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for comparing the war crimes with that of the incident of missing of its leader Elias Ali. “There is no scope to compare the heinous incidents of war crimes with that of the Elias Ali missing incident,” he said while talking to reporters after emerging from a view exchange meeting with Chhatra League leaders at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

Hanif alleged that BNP leaders have been trying to save the war criminals apparently through such remarks.
At a rally in the city Tuesday, Mirza Fakhrul remarked that the forcible disappearance of a leader in the national politics was a heinous crime against humanity and such a crime was not lesser than that of the war crimes. Hanif went to Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to review the preparations of Chhatra League that will accord a reception to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the country’s sea- limit victory and in observance of her 31st Homecoming Day on May 17.
Awami League organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP, information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and central leader Enamul Huq Shamim were present.
In reply to the remarks of BNP leaders that the present government would remain responsible for all the killing incidents, Hanif said, “The nation witnessed many killing incidents across the country, including that of Shah AMS Kibria, Ahsanullah Master, MP, and Ivy Rahman and 23 party leaders in the August 21 grenade attack in 2004 during the rule of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia.” In accordance with their (BNP leaders) remarks, the AL leader said the previous BNP-led government would have to take responsibilities for these killings.
