Govt, opposition busy in killing, says Ershad
HM Ershad, Chairman of Jatiya Party, an ally of the ruling alliance, on Sunday alleged that said the ruling Awami League and the opposition are now busy with killing, abduction and hartal and they are not worried about the welfare of the people. He said this while addressing a function at his Banani office in the city.
The former President called upon the government to refrain from enacting inter-religion marriage law.

“The government will be isolated from the people if its passes such a law and followers of any religion wouldn’t accept the law,” he warned.
Ershad questioned the government as to why the government wants to pass the law hurting the religious sentiment of the people.
He said the people had franchised their votes to BNP when the Awami League failed and the AL was voted to power when the BNP failed. This time, they changed their previous position, he added.
Ershad alleged that the foreign investment is being discouraged by enforcing hartal.
Regarding the matter of leaving the grand alliance, he made it clear that many of his party leaders want to leave the alliance.
“We will make the announcement of leaving the alliance on time,” he added.
Some 300 leaders and activists of Habiganj district AL, BNP and IOJ joined the Jatiya Party expressing their solidarity to the leadership of Ershad.
Chaired by JP presidium member Atiqur Rahman Atiq, the function was addressed, among others, by JP Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin, Sunil Shuvo Roy, SM Faisal Chisti, Khandaker Abdus Sattar, Faruq Quader and Advocate Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan.
