BNP road march: 2 factions against each other
Two factions of Kamalganj Upazila BNP Saturday organised separate press briefings on BNP’s scheduled October 10 road march from the capital to Sylhet.
BNP central committee member Mujibur Rahman arranged a press briefing at Kamalganj Journalists Association office on Saturday noon and upazila BNP president Syed Saleh Ahmed held a counter-press briefing at upazila press club in the evening.
In the first briefing Mujibur Rahman alleged that upazila BNP activists are being prey to police harassment while organinsing the road march.
He complained that "police are going to BNP leaders’ houses and are threatening them not to go to the upazila Sadar till October 11".
In the other press briefing former upazila BNP GS Hasin Afroz Chowdhury in his written speech said party activists are ready to participate in the road march. "Meanwhile, mass contact to make the event successful is continuing."
Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia made the announcement of long marches and rallies as a warm-up campaign before launching a “mass movement” while delivering her address to a combined opposition grand rally at Naya Paltan in the city.
The opposition would go on long march from the capital to the divisional headquarters of Sylhet and Rajshahi on October 10 and 18 respectively.
But the Chittagong march set for Oct 25 has been postponed in view of the upcoming hajj and eid.
As part of the programme, the opposition leaders would address rallies in Sylhet, Bogra, Rajshahi and Feni on October 11, 18, 19 and 15.
