Case against Shaon, Mazharul withdrawn
The case against celebrated writer Humayun Ahmed’s widow Meher Afroz Shaon and friend Mazharul Islam over alleged murder of the noted litterateur has been withdrawn on Wednesday.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong ABM Nizamul Haque withdrew the case after complainant filed a petition seeking withdrawal of it, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
On August 1, thirteen days after the death of Humayun Ahmed, lawyer and writer advocate Nazrul Islam filed the case against Shaon and Mazharul, publisher of Annya Prokash Publications Ltd, for committing the 'murder' in connivance with each other to misappropriate the cash and property of Humayun Ahmed.
Nazrul filed the petition on Wednesday requesting withdrawal of the case in line with section 248 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and it was readily accepted.
On query, why he requested withdrawal of the case, Nazrul told The Daily Star, “After I filed the case, close relatives of Humayun Ahmed, especially his brothers, noted politicians and public intellectuals stated in different media that Humayun should be kept beyond unnecessary debates and disputes.”
“I filed the petition showing respect to these statements,” he said.
Humayun Ahmed died of colon cancer in a New York hospital on July 19 at the age of 64.
