World Tiger day being marked
The World Tiger Day is being observed across the country with the theme of ‘Save Sundarbans, Save Tigers’ on Sunday.
A rally and discussion organized by Department of Forest under the Ministry of Environment and Forests is going to be held at city’s Osmani Memorial auditorium in the morning to mark the day.
Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud will attend the function as the chief guest while Environment and Forests secretary Mesbah ul Alam, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and IUCN country representative Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmad will take part in the programme as special guests.
M Yunus Ali, Chief Conservator of Forest, will preside over the function.
Meanwhile, Wildlife trust of Bangladesh’s Sundarbans Tiger project has chalked out special programme in four ranges of the Sundarbans to mark the Day.
Of the programmes, WTB will arrange procession, special discussion on Tiger Day and Iftar party.
Local representative, local community and forest department’s officials will attend the programmes at Joymandi of Chila union under Chandpai Range.
WTB had been observing the tiger day in Munshiganj of Satkhira Range since 2010.
For the first time, they are set to arrange programme in Chandpai, Sharankhola, Satkhira and Khulna Ranges simultaneously.
