40 injured in separate clashes in Magura

Over 40 people were injured in two separate clashes among villagers of two villages in Sadar and Mohammadpur upazilas on Saturday.

Locals said there was a long-running enmity between Moni Kumar and Ajit Kumar Biswas, both supporters of Awami League, over establishing supremacy at Gangni Natun village in Sadar upazila.

They said an altercation ensued over a trifling matter between their supporters around 9am and at one stage, both the groups attacked each other with sticks and sharp weapons, leaving 20 people from both sides injured.

Among the injured- Prashanta Kumar, Shirin Kumar, Prakash Biswas, Animesh, Amalendu, Sabuj, Biplob, Moni Kumar and Shikha Rani- were admitted to Sadar Hospital while Prabin Kumar was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

In another incident, a clash occurred between supporters of Mintu Sardar and that of Alamgir Sardar at Bararia village in Mohammadpur upazila over digging earth at about 9am, leaving 20 people injured.

Among the injured, 10 people were admitted to Mohammadpur upazila hospital.
