Ekramul remanded in new case
A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Sheershanews.com Editor Ekramul Haq on a two-day remand in a fresh extortion case.
Habibur Rahman, a tax inspector of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), filed the case with Ramna Police Station on Tuesday.
In the case statement, the complainant alleged that Ekramul extorted Tk 5,000 from him on June 12.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the remand order after showing Ekramul arrested in the case.
The order came after the investigation officer (IO) of the case produced the Sheershanews editor before the magistrate with a ten-day remand prayer.
In the prayer, IO Solaiman, also a sub-inspector of Detective Branch of police, said they have to quiz the online news agency editor to determine the reasons behind the alleged extortion.
On July 28, Ekramul was arrested following an extortion case filed with Kalabagan Police Station on charge of extorting Tk 20 lakh from a businessman of Chittagong. He was also accused in two other extortion cases.
Police arrested the online news agency editor on July 30.
