Govt realizes Tk 3.25 crore for adulteration of food
The government has realized nearly Taka 3.25 crore as fine and filed 1,451 cases against the unscrupulous businessmen from July 2011 to May 2012 by conducting
mobile courts under Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institute (BSTI).
Industries Minister Dilip Barua informed this while replying to a question from treasury bench member Bazlur Haque Haroon in the Jatiya Sangsad today.
Besides, the minister said 58 dishonest traders were sentenced in various terms by the courts during the period.
He said the present government is pledged-bound to reach save food to the people and preventing food adulteration.
"The government is working in this regard and has taken plan to make the BSTI more effective and strong through turning it into international standard," he said.
The minister said there are office cum laboratory of BSTI in all divisional cities and the government has taken a project to set up BSTI's laboratory in more five districts.
