Humayun Ahmed's burial at Nuhash Palli

After day-long suspense over the burial site of Humayun Ahmed, his kin have reached a consensus on burying the celebrated writer and playwright at his most favourite place, Nuhash Palli, in Gazipur.

The burial would take place after Zohr prayers on Tuesday, his brother Muhammad Zafar Iqbal told reporters around 2am.

Earlier, on her arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Monday morning, Meher Afroz Shaon, wife of the acclaimed writer and filmmaker, said her husband's last wish was to be buried at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur.

Meanwhile, Nova, Shila and Nuhash—the three children from the first wife of Humayun—told reporters that they want their father should be buried at a place where everybody can visit his grave and offer prayers.

The children’s decision came at the writer's mother's residence in Mirpur Monday evening.

The situation forced the government to step in to resolve the crisis.

At one stage, LGED State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak and several other personalities including Shammilita Sangskritik Jote Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, Managing Director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagar and chief of news Shaikh Siraj sat with the family and took the decision.

Humayun, who was also a famed filmmaker, died at Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital in New York Thursday night (BST) after a nine-month fight with colon cancer.
