Rabindra Mela at Channel i marks Tagore’s birthday

To celebrate the 151st birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, Channel i held a Rabindra Mela on its premises in Tejgaon on Tuesday.

At the event, noted Tagore singer Sadi Mohammad was awarded Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to the field of Rabindra Sangeet. The event was jointly organised by Channel i and Lux.

Sadi Mohammad was presented with a cheque, a crest and a uttario at the event by Shykh Seraj, director and head of news of Channel i; Tagore exponent Shudhin Das and Tapan Mahmud.

The programme began at 11:10am with flying of white pigeons. The opening of the Mela was well attended by leading cultural personalities, artists, Tagore exponents and so on. Among others, Shudhin Das, popular novelist Syed Shamsul Haq, artist Hashem Khan were present at the opening session.

This was the seventh Rabindra Mela by Channel i which was arranged as part of Tagore’s birth anniversary celebration.

In the past, Channel i honoured late Tagore exponents Kalim Sharafi and Ajit Roy, Tagore singers Rezwana Choudhury Bannya and Fahmida Khatun with the award.

The event also featured an art camp where leading artists of the country drew pictures on Tagore. An art contest for children was also held.

Colourful stalls were set up at the mela featuring works of Rabindranath Tagore, his paintings and albums for the visitors at the fair. The Mela was aired live on Channel i till 2:00pm.
