At least 10 JCD men hurt in BCL attack at Rajshahi University
At least 10 activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were injured in an attack by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at Rajshahi University on Tuesday.
The incident takes place a day after three JCD activists were injured at the Dhaka University, four days after the opposition BNP announced new Chhatra Dal committees - both for the university as well as the national one.
Motihar Police Station Officer in-Charge Anisur Rahman confirmed identity of the three chopped JCD activists — university unit's Convener Arafat Reza Ashik, Joint-Convener Delwar Hossain and another member of the convening committee, Papon.
Eyewitnesses said as a group of the JCD activists gathered in front of the university's main entrance observing the fourth anniversary of BNP's Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail at 11am, their opponents attacked.
Aggrieved activists of JCD went amuck on the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway and vandalised 10 vehicles in reaction.
The injured were first taken to the university's medical centre before being referred to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus following the incident.
The incident occurred a day after 10 JCD leaders sustained injuries in an attack by BCL activists at Dhaka University on Monday.
