Police have said that a man was tortured to death on allegations of stealing a mobile phone in Chittagong.
The victim Abdul Malek, 33, used to work for a factory at the district’s Sitakunda Upazila, said local police station’s OC Iftekhar Hossain.
Two people were detained over the incident, which took place around 1am on Wednesday, he said.
Quoting locals, the police officer told that the factory’s manager and some others beaten him up while Malek was on his way home for the day. “The body was dumped on the road after he died.”
Police went to the spot in the morning after being informed by the locals.
OC Hossain said that one Riyad Chwodhury owns the factory. But he did not immediately reveal the name of the manager, who allegedly led the torturing.
The police officer also did not disclose the identities of those detained and said that investigations were on.
