FBCCI chief demands arrest of Hallmark loan scammers

President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) AK Azad on Monday demanded that those involved with the Hallmark loan scam should immediately be arrested and tried.

"There is a possibility of Hall-Mark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud and the officials of Sonali Bank Limited involved in the loan scam to flee the country if they are not arrested immediately," said FBCCI President AK Azad.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) chief was speaking at a press conference at its office in the capital.

“Suspension of the Sonali Bank officials is not enough. An exemplary punishment is needed. Otherwise, the incidents of such types of loan scam will rise in the society,” Azad said.

Azad said not only the Hall-Mark, but also the government should take actions against the DN Sports, Paragon Group and other groups those who are involved in the loan scam of Sonali Bank.

On a query Azad said, in the primary investigation of the FBCCI, the involvement of the board of directors of Sonali Bank was not found as the loan was approved without informing the board of directors.

“That means the loan was passed bypassing the board of directors," he said.
