BEPZA achieves remarkable growth

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has achieved a remarkable growth in employment, export and investment in the financial year 2011-12.

There has been a 13.88% growth in export in 2011-2012 financial year compared to the financial year 2010-11, according to a BEPZA release.

The industries in the EPZs exported goods worth US$ 4.21 billion in 2011-2012 financial year, which was US$ 3.7 billion in the 2010-2011 financial year.

It is to be noted that the amount of export achieved in 2011-2012 financial year is US$ 210 million more than US$ 4 billion, which was the export target of BEPZA for 2011-2012 financial year.

During the last three financial years (2009-2012) the enterprises of EPZs exported goods worth US$ 10, 730.96 million. There has been a 51.68% growth compare to the export of previous three financial years (2006-2009).

Some 1,05,814 Bangladeshi nationals have directly employed during the last three financial years (2009-2012) which is 86.02% higher that the previous three financial years (2006-2009) employment. During the financial year (2006-2009) the enterprises of EPZs have employed 56,884 Bangladesh nationals.

As of June this year 3,40,507 Bangladeshi nationals have been directly employed in the EPZs of Bangladesh in which 64% is women.
