Separate pay scale for public banks to be finalised by June: Muhith
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said a separate pay scale for the officials of the central bank and state-owned commercial banks would be finalised by June next.
Muhith said this while talking to the reporters after a meeting with the high officials of state banks at his Secretariat office.
He said there are three proposals from the committee comprising the Bangladesh Bank, state-owned banks and the Finance Ministry to this end. “The decision will be taken considering these three proposals,” he added.
Asked whether there is any sort of opposition from the Finance Ministry to form a separate pay scale, Muhith said, “There’s no opposition in this regard and I haven’t heard this.”
Replying to a question whether it was right for the government bank employees to leave office early to join a rally of the Awami League, Muhith said joining political programmes by government employees is completely unethical.
The minister said there are different kinds of organisations in the banks - Zia Parishad and Bangabandhu Parishad -- and no one is told to serve these organisations.
Ruling Awami League oragnised the rally marking the historic March 7 speech by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Newspaper reports said the employees of the state-owned banks were also taking part in the Awami League's grand rally.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and Bank and Financial Institution Division Secretary Shafiqur Rahman Patwari were present at the meeting.
