Faruk urges German business leaders to invest in Bangladesh

Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan urged German business leaders to invest in Bangladesh's potential sectors like infrastructure, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals and light engineering.

He made the urge at a meeting with them in Elbezimmer in Germany yesterday, said a message received here today.

Khan met chiefs of 50 German leading businesses representing shipping industry, RMG importers, financial institutions, power companies, business bodies, and famous brand outfits.

The meeting was jointly organized by Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and German Asia Pacific Business Association (OAV) in Elbezimmer.

Faruk highlighted recent developments in various sectors in Bangladesh. He mentioned that Bangladesh-German trade is on the rise and last year it exceeded US$ 4 billion.

He informed the meeting that Bangladesh became the 3rd largest apparel supplier to the world market. Bangladesh achieved a 6 per cent growth and it the growth is continuing.

The present government under the able leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has prepared a plan `vision 2021' and the aim of this plan is to convert the country into a middle- income one through digitization, he told the meeting.

Khan informed the meeting that the government has been working for implementing the plan for development in every sector in Bangladesh.

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Germany Mosud Mannan, Commercial Counselor M Abdur Rauf, president of Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) Saiful Islam, and it's executive Director Mr. Daniel Seidl also spoke on the occasion.
