Amitabh Bachchan praises Anurag Kashyap
Impressed with the "stark" and "painfully real" portrayal of gang wars in "Gangs Of Wasseypur", Amitabh Bachchan feels that director Anurag Kashyap has allowed the visuals to flow as they would and says he would "strongly" recommend it.
"Quite undoubtedly the moment of the day has been the film "Gangs Of Wasseypur" (GOW), which I have had the great privilege to see. Indian Cinema at its best, honest, stark and as painfully real as possible. For one that has been born and lived a major portion of his life in almost similar environment, or at least exposed to it to some degree, I found so much that I could well relate to. And that has led to the authenticity...," Bachchan wrote on his blog.
The praise was mildly surprising, considering Anurag had spoken out very sharply against the Bachchans when Abhishek-starrer "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey" was released. On the internet, he had ripped into Senior B for what he saw as the sabotaging of Shonali Bose's film "Chittagong", saying,
"Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son's career..." Anurag himself seemed surprised by the praise at a recent visit to JNU, when in response to a question on the post, he said, "We have not had the best of relationships, par unhone tareef ki hai meri movie ki. Bahut badi baat hai bhai."
