Tagore’s birth anniv at Bangla Academy

Bangla Academy honoured Tagore exponents professor Anirsur Rahman and professor Fahmida Khatun and Tagore singer Iffat ara Dewan with ‘Rabindra Award 2012’ on the concluding day of two-day of the Tagore’s 151st birth anniversary celebration programme.

Professor Zillur Rahman Siddique and Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan handed over certifificates, crests and token money to the awardees on Tuesday at the academy’s auditorium.

A discussion meeting was held in which professor Harunur Rashid, professor Zillur Rahman Siddique and Shamsuzzaman Khan briefly analysed different aspects of Tagore’s works and philosophy.

The programme also included Tagore songs recitals offering reverence to the great poet marking his birth day. Celebrated singers Mita Hoque, Aditi Mohsin and Azizur Rahman Tuhin presented some timeless songs on the occasion.

Mita Hoque with her mellifluous voice rendered a devotional song titled Mor shondhay tumi sundarbeshe eshechho and a seasonal song Chokkhe amar trishna which narrates nature’s distinctiveness during summer.

On the first-day programme, a discussion session was participated by Shamsuzzaman Khan, Tagore exponent Dr Sanjida Khatun, Professsor MM Akash, author and music enthusiast Abdus Shakoor and professor Farzana Siddiqua.

After the discussion, recitation artiste Bhaswar Banerjee recited a poem. Noted Tagore singers Iffat Ara Dewan, Bulbul Islam, Shama Rahman and Nargis Rahman rendered songs.
