Legal Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia ‘now 134,148’
More than 1.58 million foreign workers, including Bangladeshis, have been registered to work in Malaysia as of last July, said Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said the number represented those who were legally employed and obtained a Visit Pass (Temporary Employment) issued by the Immigration Department, report Malaysian media.
"Indonesia tops the list of five countries whose workers are registered to work in Malaysia, with 767,590, followed by Nepal (279,421), Myanmar (137,784), Bangladesh (134,148) and India (91,222) from India," he said.
Hishammuddin was replying to Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) who wanted to know the current number of foreign workers in the country at the Dewan Rakyat sitting Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
